12 October 2013 : Food tasting at Sheraton Tower hotel, Singapore

Food Tasting at Sheraton Tower Hotel, Singapore

Finally the day of our food tasting. We had our first meet the parents session on 8 June 2013 at Paradise Inn, Greenwich V.
Now this would be the 2nd time our parents would be meeting. Besides our parents, Mr Cheong's uncle would be attending on behalf our his younger brother and my 3 sisters would be attending with us.
We had wanted it have it earlier but cause it crashed with the DnD of my 2 younger sisters' company DnD we decided to postpone it. 12 October is also Pei's bday. So, besides being our foodtasting session, it became a celebration for Pei as well. We celebrated with her prior too.

Mr Cheong drove us here and We reached earlier than 7pm but Mr Cheong's parents were slightly late. His uncle drove them there. By the time everyone reached we were being led into a function room. A glance at the table setting.

We decided to take pics before the foodtasting session so we got the manager on duty to take for us the pics

A close up look at the ware used:

Very elegant :)

And here is our menu of the day. We had previously chosen from the list of choices available and today we are going to try out our choices. Sheraton's banquet food is prepared by their in house restaurant. Though I have not been to Li Bai's restaurant but everyone else seems to have heard about it and are full of praises for their food. So today, Im really excited to try their food! But because, Mr Cheong's parents are in the food industry and that his mother had super difficult taste buds to please, we were kinda worried that LiBai's food might be failed by them. Thus, im both excited and worried at the same time.

There is also 1 side for comments, so in the events that we want to make any chances to our dishes, we could write the comments down

First course:

Li Bai Deluxe traditional Hors D'Oeuvre

We had chosen suckling pig, sesame chicken, drunken chicken, prawn salad, and deep fried spring roll with minced meat, prawns and yam.

Very nice and yummy!!! Mr Cheong's dad commented that our first course was very special unlike what was served by other hotels. No one had any complaints for Li Bai Deluxe traditional Hors D'Oeuvre so we kept everything. No changes nor comments.

2nd Course:

Shark's fin soup with shredded chicken and Crabmeat

We knew that recently, there have been a lot of advertisement telling us not to take shark's fin soup etc and there are some hotels which have stopped serving it.. We were actually glad that Sheraton's is still serving it.  Call us cruel or whatever, Im not really an animal lover, moreover shark is a carnivores, if you dont eat it, it will eat you if given a chance.

So we would be still serving shark's fin soup to our guest on our wedding day. Again, we have nothing to complain about the shark's fin soup. Not too saltish or sweet or whatever. The taste was just nice.

3rd Course:

Braised sliced abalone with sea cucumber and HongKong seasonal vegetables

The photos did not do justice to the dish. The abalone were big and yummy. they were not too elastic that you would find it very difficult to bite . They could almost melt in your mouth. Usually both Pei and Yu do not eat the sea cucumber when they attended wedding dinner but this time, they ate it! yumz....

4th Course:

Deep Fried prawn balls with Wasabi and Almond Flakes

Both Mr Cheong and I arent any wasabi taker. But we chose the deep fried prawn balls with Wasabi and Almond Flakes and we were happy that we have chose this dish

The prawn balls were yummy. The prawns were fresh. The best thing was, though wasabi was used, the it was quite mild yet with a tint of wasabi. The whole of my family arent wasabi taker but all of us like this dish. Mr Cheong's father also commented that this dish was really unique and tasty

5th course:

Steam Canadian Cod Fish with garlic and spring onion sauce

We had chosen it cause Mr Cheong love cod fish but we were worrying when we choose this dish. We were worried that the cod fish would be too small which is the usual case for many hotels. However, we were happy with it! Again, the photo didnt do any justice to the dish. The fish was actually huge! About the length of my arm!

Everyone felt that we had made the right choice!

6th Course:

PiPa Duck

We had heard reviews that the pipa duck can be quite dry, so we have kinda made some mental preparation of the dish we were change to if the duck is indeed dry. But, there wasnt a slightly bit of dryness! In face the duck meat was tasty juicy and tantalising to the taste buds!

7th Course:

Braised seasonal vegetables with Chinese mushrooms, topped with crab meat

The first impression: The dish is badly presently. I felt that it was kinda messy to have the sauce poured over the broccoli. I thought that it would look better if the broccoli could surround the sauce + mushrooms + crab meat instead.

This dish was the very first out of the 7 which we commented on. Other than the presentations. Everything else passed.

8th Course:

Stewed Japanese Udon Noodles with Seafood and Black pepper

Parents in law felt that this was a very unique dish and full of praises about the choices we have made so far, but I as a non spicy food taker, felt that the black pepper taste was too strong. My sisters agreed with me. We felt that this level of spiciness would be too much for kids, thus another feedback : To put less black pepper on our actual day wedding

 9th Course (Dessert) :

Chilled mango pudding garnished with fresh strawberries

Initially Pei and Yu were saying that we are boring to have chosen Mango pudding. After it was served, they were impressed. They love how the pudding looked. :)
Most importantly, Mr Cheong loves fresh strawberries

Finally we came to the end of our food tasting session. Everyone was happy with the food and services rendered . MIL even tipped the staff who have been allocated to serve us that evening.
LiBai's Food is really yummy! I am glad that it has not disappoint anyone of us.
