19 April: Stewords Riverboat

A friend has introduced this place to me. Giving good review to it and since they are having something special during the Good Friday long weekend, we decided to give it a try. We has initially planned to go after our USS trip and had booked a table but both of us were too tired. Talking About that, they didn't bother to give us a call when we didn't turn up on Good Friday. :(
We decided to try it on Saturday since we had no plans. So Mr Cheong made a reservations for the 2 of us at 7pm.

"Modelled after the historic steamers that navigated the treacherous waterways of the Mississippi in the early 1800's carrying bales of cotton and other cargo, the Riverboat is as authentic as possible in every design detail, from the two chimney-like smoke stacks that stand tall above her decks, to the big red paddlewheel that adorns her stern"

We were alittle late. Reached at 7.10pm. ( no one called to check  if we were going ) upon going on board the ship, we went into the restaurant on the first deck ( Santa Fe) , we were told that we can choose whether we want to sit indoor on the first deck or outdoor on the 3rd deck. They have different names for the 2 seating areas but both are serving the same menu that weekend. We decided to check out out the outdoor seating before deciding. The moment we got out of the restaurant on the first deck, Mr Cheong asked me if I experience motion sickness... And indeed I did. Both of us were kinda uncomfortable just 5 min on board!!
After checking out the 3rd deck, we decided to stay indoor instead. We felt that movement of the ship/ferry was worse up there.

So what's the special of the Good Friday weekend ? They are having grill night and  no ala carte for these 3 nights

U can choose 3 out of 6 dishes from the menu and you get to enjoy the small buffet spread at s$28++

It was very quiet. Besides us, there was only 1 other couple on board. We felt as though we had booked the whole ferry!

For the buffet spread, they are serving Isaeli breakfast salad

Corn Medallion

eggplant

Potatoes wedges

Solomon stew

Watermelon

Cinnamon coffee cake

Besides these, they also served some bread slices

We decided to take a little of each to try

And of coz some selfie with the help of my new toy- selfie monopod before the sky becomes dark completely

Lol my monopod is exposed in the above pic.
Soon our drinks were served. I ordered the boring rootbeer float ( if I remember correctly, it cost s$6.90++)

And Mr Cheong ordered refillable ice lemon tea at ($5.90++)

After trying the small buffet spread, our conclusion is the solomon stew and the corn were good and we could not wait for the main course to come

The main course came at a disappointment, the dishes, I felt were not displayed nicely. It seemed like they have used a plate too big for their dishes and that the plate itself looks very empty. I actually thought that the dishes were to be served individually in a separate plate but they (the 3 dishes) were all thrown into 1 plate

The first plate which consist of St Peter's fish, salmon fillet and Mackerel Steak

The salmon fillet

The sauce on the salmon fillet was a little spicy. The fillet was cooked fully. It could have been better if it was medium cooked

St Peter's fish:

It also comes in a very small serving about 6-7cm in length only. The fish was full of bones and I think you really need to be very careful when eating it.

Mackerel steak

It looked the least appetising. Besides that I thought that the fish was a little too dry. To make matter worse, the fish was again full of bones!

The next plate was served with chicken wings, whole selar fish and apricot beef kebab. Again, they didnt really bother to present the dishes nicely. Though serving was small like the previous but it was already slightly bigger.

The Chicken Wings

The chicken wings were not bad. The marination managed to sip into the meat itself. The chicken wings were tender and juicy.

The Whole Selar fish :

The fish looked kinda pathetic. It looked like those fish we get when we order nasi lemak and it taste exactly like those

The Apricot Beef Kebab:

I thought it was the best dish among the 6. The beef was cooked thoroughly (well done) but did not lose its juiciness. It is succulent and was tantalising to the tastebuds

After we were done with the main course, Mr Cheong went to the buffet counter to take more corn and solomon stew.

For me. I decided to try the cinnamon coffee cake which was recommended by the staff. It taste ok to me. Good for those who are health conscious, I feel as the cinnamon coffee cakes werent sweet enough for me.

We paid about S$70+ for 2 pax. I felt that the food were kind of average and we felt that more could be done to improve on the dishes so as to attract more customers. Besides that there is something which we thought that was adverse to the business was that many including the 2 of us experience discomfort on board the ferry. Because it was docked, the ferry was rocking and we experienced motion sickness. I had heard reviews from some of my friends who had visited Stewords that they tried to leave as fast as possible after eating as they could not withstand it. I thought that we were really good as we stayed on board for 1.5hrs before leaving.
We didnt expect us to feel any discomfort as we had been on board on cruise before, never did we experience motion sickness. After the dinner, I felt the same feeling as what I experienced after "the return of the mummy" ride at Universal studios
Would you like/ dare to give this a try? Btw, do check out their 1-1 promo on Tuesday
