8 DEGREE TAIWANESE BISTRO 八度空间 (11May)

Went 2x to 8 DEGREE TAIWANESE BISTRO 八度空间 at their old premise along yck road and this was the very first time that we would be going back to them after they moved to Teck Chye Terrace

In face the decor here is so much better than at their old premise. This time round in fact, it is decorated more with Jay's photos and such
The Menu:

The order chip:

The surrounding:

This is printed on some of the tables:

We ordered the Taiwan beer for Dad, as he didnt want the fruity beers available. we thought that it would come in the can form as shown in the menu but it came in a bottle.

Next came the drinks for the rest of us.

The dishes were served very quickly.

卤肉饭 (stewed pork belly rice):

It costs $3.80 for a bowl like this. I would say the pricing is reasonable. Taste wise, we felt that it was average and thought that those selling in Taiwan still taste more authentic.

Sakura shrimp fried rice with Pork floss:

The Sakura shrimp fried rice with pork floss is one of the more expensive dish served here. A plate like this cost $11.80. The portion is just enough for 1 pax (given that you didnt order anything else) We shared a little of everything. Mr Cheong commented that this was quite good.

Oyster Mee Sua:

We actually ordered both the Oyster Mee Sua as well as the plain Mee Sua. The Oyster Mee Sua costs S$5.80 whereas the Plain Mee Sua costs S$3.80.

The only difference between the plain mee sua and the oyster mee sua is just the 4 additional oysters which you see in the photo. Taste wise, both taste the same. We were quite disappointed with the Mee Sua though. We thought that they taste weird. Angela even commented that the Mee Sua sold at Shilin tastes much better than those here. We actually have a difficult time finishing the mee sua

Tangxin egg:

The Tangxin egg costs $1.80 for 1 egg sliced into 2. We ordered 2 sets of this. I actually kinda like this due to the sweet sauce on top of the egg. However, I thought that it is rather expensive

seaweed toufu:

The seaweed toufu to me is just average. nothing really special about it. It costs $3.80. Even though the toufu was crispy on the outside and soft inside and has sauce which goes well with the toufu, I feel that the sauce given was too little. It would be better if more were added or given to us separately. The seaweed itself didnt add much taste to the toufu. I had expect it to come in such a way that the seaweed are included inside the toufu or seaweed is used to wrap the toufu instead or serving the seaweed as garnish.

Fried prawn balls with hawthorn sauce:

The Fried prawns balls with hawthorn sauce costs $12.80. though it is call prawn balls but they do no come in the shape of a ball. It looks more like tempura instead. personally i like the taste of the sauce.

Salted Crispy chicken

We ordered 2 sets of the Salted Crispy chicken which costs $6.80 each. We felt that it was kinda of over priced. The serving was small and there was nothing fantastic with it.

Cheese Fries aka 5 spiced fries with cheese:

It costs $4.80 per serving. Though it is named 5 spiced fries with cheese. It tastes like the normal cheese fries which you can easily get from KFC

Brinjal with Pork Floss:

This costs us S$4.80. Mr Cheong was surprised that all of us tried eating it as we are not used to eating brinjal. This is actually the first time eating brinjal for my 2 younger sisters. We find that the taste of the brinjal was mild which is thus ok for us

We actually ordered 2 more serving of sotong balls but they were oos.

Lastly, our dessert.
We ordered 3 different types of shaved ice.

1) Mango shaved ice with fresh strawberries

2) Mango Shaved ice with fresh mangoes

3) Matcha shaved ice with red beans

We thought that all the 3 shaved ice were good. The only problem is that they came in a small portion for something which costs $6+ each. It is not really a portion for sharing, more for individual. We thought that they should have given us more ice instead since the ice is low in cost.
