Crab Party (28 Jul )

A last minute decision to bring my Dad to Crab Party for his favourite crab on his Bday. Had wanted to go to Putien but it doesn accept reservations as my Dad's bday also fell on Hari Raya Puasa this year.
Didnt want to go somewhere too far, so I requested for Mr Cheong to suggest a crab place to go... n he suggested Crap Party...
I asked him if he had ever eaten there and he replied no and when asked how come he knows about it, he told me that, we always by passed it.. lol.... I didnt even notice....
ok so Crab Party is indeed near to my place... it is situated just along YCK road.

We were early, we reached at about 6pm.

Some of the tables were reserved n I saw the reservations timing to be at ard 730pm none as early as us. There was only 1 family eating there at that time. However, the staff I felt were rather rigid as they we only have a few choices for seat even though the place was almost empty

MR Cheong n dad were looking at the menu intently and the staff keep coming over trying to take our order, we werent even ready yet. She ( a short hair, plump lady) suggested to us to take their set dinner which costs $428 for 6 pax. We felt that the set meal is too expensive even though there isnt any GST or service charge here. We decided to go for Ala Carte.
All of us felt that their drinks were rather expensive.

The ice lemon tea and lime juice both costs $3.50 each. I ordered Lemon Grass drink which I thought is rather special and quite refreshing also costs $3.50 each. The Orange juice though looks n taste good costs $5

Dad go n choose a medium sized-crab at one of the tank outside..

In less than 10 min, our first dish was served. We were quite amazed at how fast the dishes were served here....

Baby Squid :

I would say it was still hot when the it was served if not I could have suspected that they had precooked it. We ordered the medium size baby squid. It was crispy and the taste is quite nice. Portion wise: reasonable

Usually I wont take pics of u know white rice... people will think that Im too bo liao... but... I did. Y am I doing such bo liao thing? Cause I felt that it is simply zzzzzz.

We paid $1 for each bowl of rice, and not only the bowl is smaller than usual, but the rice did not even fill to a full bowl. This is an example of how little the rice is. It is not just for 1 single bowl but for all the 7 bowls which we had ordered. I even commented while the staff was serving the rice to us. .. subsequently we saw another staff serving some bowls of rice for another table which came later... Their bowls of rice look more decent, at least above the brim of the small bowl.. Felt that we have been cheated.

Sweet Sour Chicken :

Instead of the usual sweet sour pork served else where, Crab party served Sweet Sour chicken. We ordered again a medium size.
Portion : reasonable
Taste: Taste is not much different from sweet sour pork.

Sambal Kangkong

By right it should come with cuttlefish but the boss claimed that cuttlefish is oos and claimed will give us a discount. (forgot to check the receipt to see if there was any discount :( ). Usual price for Sambal KangKong with cuttlefish is $10 for a small plate. (we ordered "small" since there are 3 carnivores at the table-lol)

You Tiao with sotong paste :

We ordered small size for the you tiao with sotong paste. Portion I feel is quite big for a small size. The you tiao is quite tasty. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It taste especially good with their mayonnaise sauce.

Cereal Prawns :

Cereal Prawns are good. The prawns are fresh. All the prawns are quite big and juicy.. Portion wise, we ordered the medium which costs $30 but we felt it was worth it.

Salted egg Crab ;

Finally the main dish is served.  Unlike the usually salted egg crabs that we could usually find else where, the salted egg crabs here were done a little differently. The sauce  was very much like a butter sauce but they sprinkled salted eggs all over. When it was served, we were still discussing with each other if those were salted eggs or corns.. lol.
The crab is good, but I would have preferred the usual way of cooking... Though it was considerate of them to cooked the crab this way, as it would allow each individual to determine how much salted egg we would like. To me I thought that the taste of the salted egg did not mix well with the sauce which cause the Mantou to be less tasty.

Mantou:

Mantou costs $1 per piece and the minimum order is 8pcs. PL n PY commented that the mantou plain is yummy. crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.

I have also deliberately placed my Mantou into the bowl which they served our rice in so that you can visualise for yourself how small portion the rice served to us were.

We spent $240+ for this meal. Overall, we felt that it was worth the money and the food is generally good.
