Zenden restaurant @ Gallery Hotel

It is Sunday again and time for some dressing up. Today, Mr Cheong got me to wear the pearl set which he had gotten for me on my bday this year and in order to show my pearly chain I decided to tie up my hair so that it will not talk the attention away from the chain. Today we will be going to zenden restaurant at gallery hotel for buffet dinner

Besides the 2 of us, Mr Cheong brought fil n the dowager along.

The Colour interior of Zenden restaurant surprised us. We find it rather hip in decor. There were very limited tables so do make sure you make reservations in advance. Mr Cheong had wanted to go there last wkend but we didn't make reservations in time and they were fully booked.
The seafood section was one of the highlight esp the snow crab. When we reached there, this was how the seafood section looked like, there were only a few legs of the snow crab left. :(

But they managed to replenished it even at 9+pm which is commendable. Many of other hotels would have stopped replenishing their food at that time.

The restaurant provided 2 types of sashimi and it included salmon

The small variety of sushi

The mutton below looks messy but do not judge it by its looks it is actually quite tasty. Usually people do not take mutton due to a smell but I think for this mutton the smell is very mild.

The Salad counter

The salad counter actually has quite a good variety. Usually you only get to see vegetables salads in other hotels' buffets but for Zenden, they catered to people like me who doesnt like vegetables but like fruits. It allows me to have a healthier selection though I didnt like greens

The apple salad- a mixture of green and red apples

Cant really what fruits this is made up of

The above is tomato with avocado but it seems like there isnt much avocado left when there is still so much tomatoes around.

And not forgetting the usual greens

There is also a small section for Laksa. If you want to have laksa, you will have to cook it yourself. Mr Cheong cooked a bowl and we shared. It wasnt that spicy so non spicy eaters like me can try... The gravy was quite good..

The creme of mushroom tasted not bad too though I would think that the one from Poulet is better.

However, I wouldnt say the same for the Rotini. Firstly it was served cold. I guess thats the way the chef wanted it to be since there isnt any sauce for this. Secondly, it was kinda tasteless.

The cooked food section:

3 cups chicken

sea food toufu which is supposed to go with dipping chilli sauce but I could not find the chilli sauce :(

Fried rice

Some Taiwaness chicken. The dowager loves it and ate a lot of this. But I thought it was average.

Wasabi prawns

Some spinach dish

Fish fillet which is quite hard. If you want to try this, better takes alot of sauce

The Black pepper crab which wasnt warm :(

Some of the food I took to try

There is also a small counter overlooking the open concept kitchen which the dish of the day will be placed. The dish of the day is actually Ham that day. I didnt manage to take a photo of that though, but it looks a little like Xmas ham. Mr Cheong felt that the ham was average but likes the pineapples which goes with the ham, whereas the dowager felt that the ham was quite good.

The dessert section:

The dessert section is pretty small and to my amazement, their chocolate fondue wasnt served the usual fountain way but like the photo below

This is the very first time I have seen chocolate fondue being served this way. Kinda too creative isnt it? but ok they still managed to keep the chocolate warm though.

The selection for the fondue is rather pathetic too with only 3 options

Instead of being deterred by the fondue section, I took from the fruits section to add to my own chocolate fondue

Besides having a very limited selection for its fondue, their cakes sections was pretty small too.
They only served:
1) Walnut cake

2) Mango Moose Cake

3) Oreo Cheese Cake

4) Panda moose

5) Durian Pengat

and that was all. only 5 varieties! I tried the Durian Pengat, eating it at the counter because Mr Cheong couldnt stand its smell. I thought it was quite good, but the dowager complained that it wasnt nice, claimed that it was made from powder instead of the real durians, just had a mouthful and discard the rest.
I also tried the Pandan moose but it wasnt as soft as it was supposed to be. the texture is a little like toufu/pudding kind and is harder than the usual served in other places.

I would think that the best sweets served is the mango moose cake. All of us, Mr Cheong, me and the dowager all felt that it is nice! Mr Cheong even had 3 small pieces of it!

Not forgetting that they have a larger ice cream counter compared to other places too. They provide 6 different flavours including Durian flavoured ice cream in the selection. There was 1 which I remembered clearly - Frutty Tutti! Mr Cheong had thought that the yam ice cream has been contaminated by other ice cream due to its colour! He didnt realised that it wasnt Yam but Fruity Tutti... ahahhaha... I tried the mango flavoured and it is just the normal ice cream which you can easily get from the ice cream man around the neighbourhood... So dont expect too much

They also served tea and coffee for hot beverages. but sad to say only water for cold drinks..

We managed to get the parking redemption from them and no parking charges for Mr Cheong. However, if the redemption ticket is only redeemable for 2.5hrs of parking.. anything more than that will require top up.

While waiting for the lift to the carpark, the 2 Mr Cheong who were attracted by the vintage chair decided to take a seat.

But the senior Mr Cheong needed to give up his seat to the dowager.

At the end, we paid about S$25 each after the 1-1 promotion which we find was pretty cheap. For that amount paid, i would say, it was quite worth it. I wont mind coming again if there is another 1-1 promotion but not if i have to pay the original price of S$42++ per pax
